People think it’s a class position,
Some say it’s a condition, which has got no solution
Others perceive it to be a state of living
Poverty is an acid that drips on pride until all pride is worn away
Feeling poor in Canada is different from living in poverty in Russia or Zimbabwe
Poverty is hunger, Poverty is lack of shelter
People wake up every morning from a speck of dirt and illness-stained mattress,
Not having what to eat, to think of what to wear
Poverty is not tasty, it’s a situation very nasty
It makes one go to the extent of asking for help
It makes one look into a black future,
Thinking all hope is lost
Hearing the name POVERTY doesn’t mean it’s a title,
Neither is it a subtitle
One needs not be happy when called a poor man
Poverty lays its icy hand on an individual or country,
Causing them not to get access to education, good health care and the likes
And not to even think of getting protection against violence
Lack of money in a country causes it not to improve in its economic activities
Thereby remaining on the table of developing countries instead of the developed ones
This causes citizens to live a bitter life
Poverty is a complex societal issue,
No matter how it’s being defined, It requires the attention of everyone
Poverty shouldn’t be a class position where people will find themselves
So let’s come together to find a solution to shame POVERTY…
