When Bob Marley of Blessed Memory said, ‘Different colours, one people, it hit home.
We are black women with different types of black, but we are all the same. We are the same because almost the same thoughts run through our minds. The different types of black women we have here are not all the types we have but just a glimpse of the entire black women race.
We have the;
- The intelligent and confident black woman: she is intelligent and she knows it. She wields her knowledge so high and understands her self-worth. Needing no validation to feel any better she goes by her daily activities. Because she is confident and loves herself enough to know what she wants and doesn’t want, knows how to be treated, the moment she corrects anyone who seems to want to put her down; she is labelled as A MAD BLACK WOMAN.
- Then we have the intelligent but emotionally unstable woman: She knows she is intelligent because everyone around her praises her wittiness and ability to see through people with her laser shape beautiful eyes. But, there is just one flaw, keeping her emotions in check is something she has never been really good at. While I call that part of her the best part of her statute; she seems to be so focused on how that works for her, she has forgotten who she really is; A BEAUTIFUL MESS. Because of that flaw, she is able to sympathise and show empathy, she is able to understand how it feels to be broken and she understands the pains you cannot speak off, but then again. because of this, each time she refuses to look on while she is abused or mistreated, each time she cries out in pain that only she can feel; people label her as A MAD BLACK WOMAN.
- Let me INTRODUCE HER; THE QUEEN, THE BITCH, THE ONE WHO wouldn’t take shit from anyone even when they’re family. She is the one who has been through shit, her name mudded and yet still stands strong. Her exterior look is so unlikeable because she walks her talk and keeps it straight. No sugar-coating and honestly in actual fact, no malice intended because that is just who she is. Only a strong man will appreciate her and she waits for validation from no one because she is her own fucking validation. She fights her demons silently that you hardly hear or see her tripping. The truth is, she is just as messed up inside even with the strong front she presents. She is scared of speaking out her fears because, well, she’s being labelled the MAD BLACK WOMAN from the beginning.
- Just like a painting on the wall; her life seems so perfect. The way she does what she does seem perfect. The way she speaks seems so genuine, the eyes hold so many secrets that only her God knows what she is going through. This woman represents the broken yet still standing strong woman. Her story may seem like a facade but until you have faced them yourselves, you might never give her the credit for how strong and collected she seems. The woman called A MOTHER is belittled because everyone thinks she is doing well when she is barely holding it in. She is a hero to her kids and a constant figure to a man that may or may not appreciate her contributions.
- She competes with men, she competes with fellow women, she competes even with herself and yet she doesn’t even know that. She seems like the perfect CAREER WOMAN. The one who has everything yet owns nothing. The one whose life seems to be going on well, because she has the right job, the perfect husband and maybe the perfect kids. But, she is not all she seems, and even though she tries to deceive everyone around her into thinking that she is the epitome of perfection; she is in fact breaking down silently and wishing that somehow someone would save her from herself. She is another MAD BLACK WOMAN.
PS: This is not all; there are more to the black woman. If you would take the time to appreciate her, you will find that she is beautiful inside out even with all her flaws. This is not a jab at women, it is genuine writing that seeks to appreciate women and their struggles. The writer is impartial to all thoughts and stereotypes of how people are labelled and she is just another MAD BLACK WOMAN writing.
